School Groups

The annual Timpanogos Storytelling Festival is drawing near! This year's event is scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, September 2-4. It will be held at the Mt. Timpanogos Park in Provo Canyon.

"Not only does the festival promote cultural diversity, but it is geared toward all ages to promote language, literacy and art."
 - Michael O. Leavitt, former Governor of the State of Utah

School age children are invited to participate in the event. We are pleased to offer schools two ways to participate:

  1. Onsite Program - children attend a one hour session onsite at the Mt Timpanogos Park.
  2. Outreach Program - storytellers present assemblies and/or workshops in your school.

Onsite Program

School children grades 3 and up are invited to attend a one-hour session plus a half-hour preshow performance on Thursday, September 2nd or Friday, September 3rd, 2010. Only groups with access to buses can be accommodated on site. Registrations are handled on a first-come-first-serve basis. Registrations received after the schedule is full will be placed on a waiting list. If you are placed on a waiting list, you will be notified in the event of a cancellation.

Cost: $1.00 per person (including chaperones).

Grades invited: Third grade and older.

Because this event occurs so soon after school begins in the fall, it's best to book your reservation before school ends this year. PLEASE respond as soon as possible. Assignments and notifications will be made in May.

If lunch is part of your field trip to the Festival, please plan to use a park other than Mt. Timpanogos Park (the Festival park). Due to limited parking we cannot accommodate busses arriving earlier or staying later than scheduled. School groups may not eat their lunches in the performance tents. The sound from hundreds of lunch sacks is too distracting to the performance.

Session times indicate when students must be in their seats. Schedule enough travel time to arrive, disembark and walk to tents. Please keep in mind bus scheduling and do not request a time that you cannot reasonably make.

Bus arrival is closely scheduled. For the 10:00 a.m. performance, busses may only arrive between 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. For the Thursday 12:00 p.m. performance, busses may only arrive between 11:30 and 11:55 a.m. For Friday's 11:30 a.m. performance, busses may arrive only between 10:50 and 11:15 a.m.

School Outreach Program

The Festival is thrilled to bring renowned storytellers into Utah schools to present assemblies and workshops as part of the Outreach Program on Tuesday, September 1st; Wednesday, September 2nd; and Thursday, September 3rd. Performances are available morning of afternoon.

Cost:

$250.00 - one 45 - 60 minute assembly or workshop
$350.00 - two 45 - 60 minute assemblies or workshops

Please note that lower and upper grades in schools with a student body of 400 or more students need to be split into two assemblies. Workshops are designed by age and are available upon request.

Because this event occurs so soon after school begins in the fall, plans must be made before school ends this year. Please respond as soon as possible. A member of the Festival Outreach Program Committee will contact you to confirm your reservation. If you have any questions, please contact:
